AI Application Engineer

About the Job

Build enterprise AI assistants, workflow automation and knowledge retrieval features. You will deliver defined modules within an established architecture and support testing, deployment and improvement. Based in Hong Kong, you will work with colleagues across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and overseas markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop application modules, backend services, APIs and tool-calling integrations using existing components, with input validation, error handling and permission checks.
• Build document ingestion and processing pipelines, including OCR, cleansing and chunking; maintain reliable index updates and failure recovery.
• Improve retrieval across Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English using hybrid search and re-ranking; maintain prompts, citations and permission filtering.
• Integrate knowledge services through APIs and MCP, and work with knowledge owners to review and remove outdated content.
• Create evaluation cases and regression tests for answer quality, citations, conflicting or outdated content and access boundaries; troubleshoot integration and production issues with technical colleagues.
• Clarify requirements and acceptance criteria with users, support deployment, and maintain technical and operating documentation.
• Support MVPs or POCs, assess when AI is appropriate, help define success measures and baselines, and track adoption and impact. Explain trade-offs, support frontline training and use feedback to improve features.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of software development experience.
• Experience with advanced knowledge retrieval, document processing (including OCR or multimodal content), knowledge graphs, multilingual retrieval, MCP or Dify with custom code would be an advantage.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript or C#, with the ability to develop defined modules independently.
• Working knowledge of APIs, SQL, Git, debugging and testing.
• Practical experience delivering a RAG-based AI application or module, with examples of testing retrieval and answer quality.
• Fluent English and working proficiency in Cantonese and Mandarin are required.
